An online booking system is in place for Balfron Household Recycling Centre to help with managing traffic and social distancing for this site (see below section for further details).
Traffic management measures are in place across all of the 3 Household Recycling Centre and all drivers must follow the directions of Site Attendants.
Drivers are greeted by our Site Attendants upon arrival, who will ask visitors for details of the items they’re disposing of to be able to direct customers to the correct disposal points.
Please ensure you have separated your materials in advance of going to a Household Recycling Centre as this will reduce your time on site.
Please note, there are no public toilets available at any of our sites.
Our sites are licensed for household waste only. We are unable to accept commercial waste at any of our Household Recycling Centres. We are happy to accept commercial waste customers over our Polmaise Depot weighbridge. This is a chargeable service for registered account holder customers.
Horse boxes and double axle trailers are not permitted to access the site for disposal.
Visitors in commercial vehicles will be asked to complete a declaration to confirm conformance with their legal duties as commercial waste producers.
Please note, ID checks are in place at our sites with all customers required to provide proof of address upon entry. Acceptable forms of ID include photographic ID such as a driver's licence with Stirling residency noted; or, a passport with accompanying utilities bill/receipt containing address details.
Children under the age of 12 are not permitted outside of vehicles at any of our sites. Pets are not permitted outside of vehicles.

Stirling residents can reserve a 10 minute slot through our online form, or by calling the Council’s Contact Centre on 01786 404040.
Residents will be able to view availability for the next seven days, starting on Monday, with a two-day gap between booking and accessing the site. This two-day gap gives our team time to prepare for busier periods.
Bookings are available to Stirling residents (only) on a first come, first served basis and are limited to 2 per vehicle, per week.
Social distancing rules are in place on site and you will also be asked to remain in your vehicle at all times until you reach the skip areas.

Please Note: Vehicles arriving before opening hours will be turned away to limit traffic disruption on the A905. During busy periods where our traffic queuing lane is completely full, vehicles may be turned away before the above closing times to ensure there is enough time given for the last vehicle in the queue to use the services of the site before closing times.
Polmaise Recycling Centre is currently operating in a clockwise direction to enable more vehicles to queue on-site.
Site attendants are in place to direct the flow of traffic. Drivers must follow the directions of Site Attendants.
Please note: Vehicles arriving before 9am will be turned away to limit traffic disruption on the A905. Access by the Council’s vehicles and emergency services to the Transfer Station must be maintained at all times.

As queuing will be likely on Geisher Road, please ensure that junctions and exit roads are kept clear at all times to enable local, depot, and emergency traffic to pass.

Who can use a Stirling Council Household Recycling Centre?
Stirling Council’s Household Recycling Centres are in place to service the needs of local Stirlingshire residents only. The running of these facilities is paid for by Central Government and Council Tax funding allocated to Stirlingshire residents.
Out of area residents, will not be permitted access to Stirling Council Household Recycling Centres, unless the waste is from a Stirling household source and a member of that household is present with them.

What types of vehicles can use the Household Recycling Centres?

It is breaking the law to bring commercial/trade waste to a licensed Household Recycling Centre. Our sites are licensed for household waste only. We are unable to accept commercial waste at any of our Household Recycling Centres.

What do I do when I’m on site?

Residents will be directed by a Site Attendant upon arrival, who will ask some basic questions, including what items you have brought with you. The Site Attendant will direct you to the appropriate skips or containers on site to deposit your waste and recycling into. Residents will be asked to recycle as much as possible of what they have brought to the site.
What types of containers can I bring?
Please store and bring your waste materials in containers that are convenient for your household. Residents must be able to lift and empty their containers/bags quickly and safely and be able to do so on their own, or with help from a passenger they’ve brought with them.
Can I bring bulky items that need more than one person to carry?
Residents must be able to lift and empty their items safely and do so on their own, or with help from a passenger they’ve brought with them. To safely manage pedestrians on site, we would expect no more than two persons out of a vehicle at any one time.
Can Site Attendants help me lift my waste?
No, unfortunately, our Site Attendants are unable to assist residents with the carrying or disposal of waste or recycling materials.
This is an instruction from management based on our health and safety assessments, to ensure that our staff are not injured in the process of removing items from vehicles loaded by residents or cause damage to vehicles or visitors in the process.
No physical handling of household waste materials is also a critical provision within our COVID-19 Risk Assessments, in order to keep our site staff and customers safe. What types of vehicles can use the sites?
All vehicle types, including large vans, liveried vehicles, and trailers, will be permitted entry to Polmaise, Callander, and Balfron as long as they are carrying household waste from the driver’s property.
What cannot be brought to the sites?
It is illegal to bring commercial/trade waste to a licensed Household Waste Recycling Centre. Drivers of commercially liveried vans and trailers will be allowed on-site to deposit residential household waste from their own property.
Where will waste be deposited?
Visitors will be directed by the site staff on arrival and numbers in any area at any one time will be managed appropriately.
What types of containers can customers bring?
As long as residents can lift and decant their containers/bags quickly and do so on their own, or with help from a passenger they’ve brought, we have no issue.
Will customers be able to bring bulky items that need more than one person to carry?
Only if they are bringing their own assistant as site staff will not be able to assist. We would expect no more than two persons out of a vehicle at any one time to ensure the numbers of people are reduced on site.
Can the staff help me lift my waste?
No, our staff will not be able to assist residents with the carrying or disposal of waste/recycling.
Can I take a horsebox or double axle trailer into a Household Recycling Centre?
No, horse boxes and double axle trailers are not permitted to access the site for disposal.
What happens to the waste I take to a Household Recycling Centre?
Depending on the item, waste and recycling would either be sent for re-use, recycling, or for disposal to landfill.
Re-use: Materials deposited in textile or book banks are collected by appointed licensed contractors and prepared for re-use. Bicycles are collected by a charitable organisation and repaired and sold back to local residents. Gas bottles are collected and refilled by the manufacturing company.
Recycling: Materials such as scrap metal, electrical goods, wood, paper, cardboard, batteries, and glass are bulked and hauled to re-processing facilities, where they are sorted into parts, bailed, and sent on for remanufacturing.
Disposal: Any material that is deposited in a ‘Non-recyclable waste’ skip is sent to a licensed landfill site in Falkirk. Residents are encouraged to maximise all recycling opportunities when visiting a Household Recycling Centre site.
The Council is required to report all weights and volumes of waste materials coming into and leaving our Household Recycling Centres to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
