Special Uplift

The Council provides residents a chargeable uplift service for bulky household items.  Alternatively, you can dispose of your items free of charge at your local tip or consider donating reusable items to local Charity Shops or Reuse projects.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) GuidanceIf you or a member of your household have Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, you should not request an uplift. Households must wait 72 hours after a household is clear from isolating prior to making a request.

If you have requested an uplift and you or anyone within the household develop Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, please telephone 01786 404040 to rearrange your request.

You can request a special uplift though our Customer Contact Centre on 01786 404040 or online by completing the Special Uplift Request Form. 

If you request the service on-line a Customer Service Adviser will call you to confirm the booking, cost of uplift and if necessary process payment.

These are the type of items that can be uplifted.

Bric-a-brac Ironing board, clothes airier, suitcase, Christmas tree, curtain pole
Children’s Items Large toys, pram, baby bath, cot, pram, buggy, car seat, stair gate
Floor Coverings Carpet, lino, rugs (must be no larger than 4 metres and bundled together)
Domestic Fridge/Freezer Domestic only - free of charge. No chest/deep freezers, American style units, units with glass fronted doors. Item must be completely empty.
Furniture Sofa, chair, table, bed, mattress, headboard, wardrobe, cabinet, fireplace, bath, toilet, sink, dinning set (input as separate items)
Garden Equipment Lawnmower, strimmer, garden tools, hose, fuel tank (must be empty), BBQ, bench, table and chairs (log as separate items)
Leisure & Sport Equipment Golf clubs, bicycle, scooter, fitness equipment
Contaminated Bin Removal of contaminated bin (charged as one item)

All requested items should be at the kerbside by 7am on the morning of your collection day.

Any additional items presented will not be uplifted.

To reduce the risk to our staff, we can only uplift items presented at the kerbside.  We will not collect items from inside houses, sheds or garages.

A standard bulky uplift (up to 5 household items, or 6 if one is a fridge/freezer) costs £44.70. 

The uplift of a contaminated bin is charged at £44.70 per bin.

An additional charge will be applied if you have more than 5 items to be uplifted. 

The cost displayed on-line is a guide.  The Customer Service Adviser will confirm the total cost when they call you to process the special uplift.

We are currently are only excepting credit/debit card payments.

If all member of your household are over 60 years old, we will collect up to 2 special uplifts free of of charge each year. An uplift is up to 5 items (6 if including a fridge/freezer), you can only book 1 free uplift at a time.

A charge will be applied if you require more than 5 items to be uplifted or if one of the items is a contaminated bin.

Please consider donating reusable items to local Charity Shops or Reuse projects.

Requesting a Special Uplift 

You can request a special uplift up to 3 weeks in advance. We will try our best to allocate you the date you have requested.  However, during periods of high demand an alternative date will be offered.
