For Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, you will need to provide us with all the pages of your recent Tax Credit Award letter. This should be dated in the last 3 months and show your expected income. For all other allowances, you need to provide your reward letter. These should be supplied at the time of applying and applications cannot be processed until this has been received.

By completing an application you confirm that the information is correct to the best of your knowledge and we ask that you inform the Council of any change in your financial circumstances.  

Please note: This list is not exhaustive and is designed to give an indicator of entitlement rather than an official award. This would only be confirmed once we have all the details and evidence required to process your application.

Scottish Government advise families on low incomes may be eligible to receive a Footwear and Clothing Grant award of a minimum payment of £120 for Primary aged children and £150 for Secondary aged children. However, Stirling Council have agreed to top up the payment to £200 for both primary and secondary children for the academic year 2022/23.

Please note nursery children are not eligible for a Footwear and Clothing Grant.  Children who turn 16 on or before 30 September will not be eligible to apply but should apply for Education Maintenance Allowance and Free School Meals.

 

If your child is in P1 to P5

Free School Meals are offered to all pupils in P1 - P5 without the need for parents/carers to submit an application form. However, an application form must be completed if you also require a school clothing grant for your child in P1-P5.

If your child is P6 or above

You can claim free school meals and a school clothing grant for your child(ren) if you are receiving:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an income of less than £17,005
  • Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income of up to £7,920
  • If you are between 16 and 18 years old and receive any of these benefits in your own right, you can claim free school meals for yourself.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal Credit with a monthly earned income of not more than £660

We will notify your headteacher that your child(ren) are eligible for Free School Meals.

We are unable to backdate payment for Free School Meals.
