In a bid to support its tenants against the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, Stirling Council has brought forward its rent free weeks for the 2020/2021 financial year.
Those eligible for the relief will now enjoy four weeks rent-free, beginning this Monday (6th April), instead of over the Christmas and New Year period, and during March 2021.
This means that no rent will be charged for the four weeks beginning 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th of April.
Four weeks rent free
Stirling Council Housing Portfolio Holder, Councillor Evelyn Tweed, said: “Many tenants are facing uncertainty with their income and we hope that by bringing their rent free weeks forward they will feel a little more secure about their finances during this difficult time.
Depute Housing Portfolio Holder, Councillor Danny Gibson said: “This will also help to limit any rent arrears they may accrue during this time. We are doing all we can to ease the increased financial pressures on tenants and will continue to work closely with our tenants to help limit any financial anxiety they may be facing.”
Changes to rent payments
For those who receive Housing Benefit, their account will automatically be adjusted and they won’t need to take any further action.
Tenants who pay their rent weekly by direct debit will have their next payment on 8th May, while those making monthly payments will continue as normal.
If there are tenants who don’t pay by direct debit and would prefer their rent free weeks later in the year, they should continue to pay as normal.
